Children and adults dressed as fairy tale princesses, movie characters and superheroes gathered Sunday afternoon at Brockington Hall on East Hall Street in a benefit for local pediatric care.
The event served as a fundraiser for The Next Generation, which benefits young patients at the Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center.

“They provide things at the hospital like end-of-chemotherapy parties and decorations for the hospital on holidays,” said Dr. Katy Moretz, the event’s organizer. “They bring in toys and games and crayons and all that for kids while they’re in the hospital.”
On hand to help was the Cochran-based nonprofit group Princesses with a Purpose, made up of volunteers dressed as various fairy tale princesses and other characters.
Children attending the event were able to get autographs from the costumed characters, have their pictures taken with them and even play swordfight with pirates.
“We just wanted fun for the kids since we’re raising money for kids,” Moretz said.
