At a press conference late this afternoon, Savannah City Manager Stephanie Cutter and County Manager Russ Abolt announced that Savannah-Chatham police Chief Willie Lovett has retired, effective immediately.

Cutter said a three-person transition team will be leading the department.

Juliette Tolbert, who previously served as commander of special operations, will be acting police chief.

Terry Enoch, director of Savannah Impact program, will serve as acting assistant chief.

Capt. Mike Wilkins will serve as acting major over special operation.

On Thursday, the Savannah Morning News reported that Lovett has been accused to sexually harassing a metro police officer. Cutter notified the mayor and city council in a Sept. 20 memo that those allegations are being investigated by an outside law firm.
