For its third year participating in the annual Gingerbread Village competition at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, Calvary Day School decided to look for artistic inspiration. The school submitted 10 houses based on Pop Artists, each designed after a specific artist and their masterpiece. Students in pre-K4 through 12th grade received an art history lesson while decorating and recreating these masterpieces onto the gingerbread shells. The artists chosen were:
• Jasper Johns: Designed by pre-K4 and first grade. This home features the iconic style of American flags and targets/bull’s-eyes.
• Claes Oldenburg: Designed by the third grade. This home features playful sculptures with ordinary objects on a monumental scale.
