HIGH SCHOOLS: Johnson girls win tournament

Ijeoma Odimgbe had a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots to lead the Johnson Atom Smashers to a 57-33 win over New Hampstead in the Savannah Christian Christmas tournament finals Saturday. Ashontianna Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds for Johnson, which improved to 8-3 on the season.

Jakayvea Akins scored 16 points and Makayla Robinson added 13 as Effingham County beat Spalding to win the Spalding Holiday Tournament. Kyesha Lewis (12 points) was named the tournament MVP, while Robinson and Aliyah Williams made the all-tournament team.

Lauren Hadley scored 19 points to lead Pace Academy of Atlanta over Savannah Country Day.

The Hornets were by Taylor Parker, who knocked down 5 of 6 3-pointers and scored 21 points.

Sophomore Anna Muller scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Landry Rushing dished out seven assists and scored six points.

Jessica Lanier led the Cavaliers with 14 points. Brittany Griffin had 11 points, five assists and four steals. Dawona Magwood added nine points and nine rebounds and Abigail Lewis had 10 points.

Georgia Tech-bound guard Tadric Johnson drained a pair of clutch free throws with 9 seconds left and scored 18 points to lead Tift County to a win over Savannah High in the Battle of the South Classic.

Branielus Ross led Savannah High with 15 points and Chris Cokley added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Jackets, who lost their first game of the season.

USMC Seahawk Slam Results

Florida wrestling powerhouse Brandon ran away with the team title at the USMC Seahawk Slam with 341.5 points behind nine individual champions at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

Among local teams, Effingham County ranked highest with a ninth-place finish (111 points). Dalton Mydell (195 pounds) and Cheyenne Hunt (285 pounds) each took third place for the Rebels. South Effingham finished 18th with 87 points as 220-pounder Tyler Smith finished second.
