Cindy considers herself a good mom who has instilled important values in her three children.
She has taught them the importance of education, discipline and hard work. In return, they get good grades and behave in school.
She also has told them about the spiritual underpinnings of Christmas and that the holiday season isn’t a competition to see who gets the most gifts.
Cindy is a widow whose husband died several years ago. She’s still single. Her late husband had been unable to work, so she has limited income.
In past years, Cindy managed to make ends meet and have a little extra to buy small, inexpensive Christmas presents for her children.
But this year has been difficult, and Cindy is unable to buy anything after paying the bills. She’s pained about missing Christmas this year, as her children deserve more than she can give them.
This newspaper launched the Empty Stocking Fund in 1971. Its purpose hasn’t changed in 42 years — to lift the spirits of families in our community who find themselves struggling during the holiday season.
Generous readers who have shared their blessings during the past four decades have sparked thousands of smiles on Christmas Day. As always, contributions will be acknowledged in the manner requested by donors.
