Department of Natural Resources ranger recognized
SOCIAL CIRCLE — Four conservation rangers with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division were recognized recently at the 2013 Governor’s Public Safety Awards ceremony.
One of the awards went to Cpl. Michael Crawley in connection with an incident on the Ogeechee River.
Crawley responded to a situation with four lost hunters and found them in waist-deep water about a mile from the river bank. One of the hunters panicked when he was told to swim, and Crawley had to dive in to rescue him.
When the ranger finally got all four victims to land, he helped build a fire to warm them until they could be removed from the area the next morning.
Other awards went to RFC David Brady and Sgt. Chris Hodge for saving a person in a boating incident near St. Simons Island and Sgt. Mark Carson for helping to prevent a potential suicide on the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick.
