First came earth, then wind, fire and rain Friday evening at Savannah Arts Academy. Or — as organizers of the sixth annual Junk 2 Funk fashion show put that last one — “freezing rain” in light of the week’s cold spell.
Students wearing throwaway materials recycled into elaborate outfits designed by other students strutted their stuff at the high school to lots of fanfare as the sold-out show got underway.

The “forces of nature” themed evening was broken up into four segments, each with a differently lit backdrop and ever-changing music.
The first featured models showcasing earth tones in outfits that featured items such as twigs and even Spanish moss while a drummer performed in the background.
Next came wind, which saw longer outfits with more frills and generally lighter colors. Some designs incorporated feathers and other elements that called breeze or flight to the mind.
Third was fire, in which nearly every model wore a shade of fierce red. Some wore black, and quite a few wore capes.
Rain was last but not least. Designs ranged from white and light blue to purples and grays and outfits that incorporated reflective elements.
The show closed out with performance art, including dance.
