TALLAHASSEE — Savannah State missed three shots in the final eight seconds, including a layup and two free throws, and lost a close Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game to Florida A&M 54-51 on Monday.
The Tigers kept it close all the way and only trailed by one at 52-51 after a dunk by Jyles Smith with 26 seconds to go. But Florida A&M got two foul shots down the stretch and SSU couldn’t close the gap.
Smith led Savannah State with 10 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Terel Hall added 11 points off the bench for SSU (8-15, 6-3 MEAC). Jamie Adams led A&M (8-14, 4-5) with 17 points, Reggie Lewis aadded 15 and Jamari Bradshaw had 11.
The game was tied 25-all at the half.

TALLAHASSEE — Jasmine Grice had a game-high 34 points, including 8 of 10 free throw shooting, as Florida A&M downed Savannah State.
Taneka Rubin added 10 points for the Rattlers (11-11, 5-4 MEAC).
Jasmine Norman led SSU (13-10, 6-3 MEAC) with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Jasmine Kirkland added 14 points.
Ezinne Kalu, who had 25 points in the first meeting this year, was held to one point and ended the game with four fouls.
Savannah State held a slim lead, 39-38, at halftime but shot a cold 36.4 percent from the floor in the second half.

STATESBORO — Taylor Hall registered 25 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and scored her 1,000th career point to lead Chattanooga to a 72-60 Southern Conference women’s basketball victory over Georgia Southern Monday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Anna Claire Knight scored 19 points to lead Georgia Southern (7-15, 5-6), and Briana Jones notched 13 points and six rebounds. MiMi DuBose netted 14 points. Danielle Spencer grabbed four rebounds to reach 500 for her career, becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the milestone.
Hall’s 1,000th point came on a conventional 3-point play with 3:12 left in the game. The senior grabbed her own offensive rebound, laid it in and was fouled. She was 7-of-18 from the floor and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the game. Chelsey Shumpert chipped in 13 points.

Fiveash’s shot lifts Claxton past Calvary
CLAXTON — Taylor Fiveash hit a shot with five seconds left to lift Claxton to a 52-51 victory over Calvary on Monday.
Devonna Brewton led Claxton with 17 points, Keri Brown had 12 and Jazmine Price put in 11.
For Calvary, Abigail Lewis had a game-high 18, Dawona Magwood had 11 and Brittany Griffin 10.
In the boys game, Calvary defeated Claxton 57-54. A.J. Keene had 15 points for Calvary and Khaliq Hughes added 10.
Corneilus Taylor led Claxton with 22 points and Darvis Small added 16.
