MILLEDGEVILLE — Third-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader at Georgia College on Monday, blanking the Bobcats in game one 4-0 and losing 7-2 in game two.
Armstrong (26-8, 11-3 PBC) halted a 15-game home winning streak by the Bobcats (27-11, 6-6 PBC) with the game-one shutout, while Georgia College’s second-game win ensured the Pirates have split their last three PBC doubleheaders.
The Pirates managed just two hits in game one against Georgia College starter Carly Lewis (12-7), but the two hits were home runs. Lacye Walker blasted a two-run shot in the first inning to stake Armstrong to a 2-0 lead, then Alexis Mercer added a solo home run in the third inning and the Pirates pushed across an unearned run for the 4-0 advantage.
Armstrong starter Ollivia McLemore (17-3) limited the Bobcats to just five hits and three walks, striking out three in the shutout victory, her fourth shutout of the season.
In game two, the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Kristen Humphries. Georgia College extended that lead to 5-0 with three runs in the second inning courtesy of an RBI double by Brooks, an RBI single by Taylor Campbell and a sacrifice fly by Danielle Bernstein.

Second-ranked and two-time defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State extended a pair of impressive streaks with Monday afternoon’s 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over visiting GRU Augusta at Bacon Park.
The Pirates (16-1, 9-0 PBC) extended their current home match unbeaten streak to 132 matches, dating back to 2003, while also extending their current regular-season Peach Belt Conference winning streak to 119 matches, which also dates back to the 2003 season. GRU Augusta falls to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in the PBC with the loss.

The fifth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State tennis team remained unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play with a 9-0 win over No. 23 GRU Augusta on Monday.
The Pirates (10-5, 6-0 PBC) maintain a one-game lead atop the PBC standings with the win, while GRU Augusta falls to .500 in the league with the loss, moving to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in the PBC.

SSU’s Shakir wins hurdles
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Savannah State junior Lemaar Shakir and freshman Justin Leggett led the Tigers’ outdoor track and field team at the 2014 Winthrop Invitational this past weekend at the Winthrop Invitational.
Shakir won the 400-meter hurdles event with a time of 52.57. In the 110 meter hurdles, he finished sixth with a time of 15.23.
Leggett garnered third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He topped the 100 with a time of 11.13 and the 200 with a time of 21.91.
The SSU team of Kenshard Hamilton, Leggett, Hall and Shakir finished in second place with a time of 41.82 in the 4x100-meter relay. In the 4x400, the team of Kristopher Ballou, Shakir, Brandon Davis, and DeAndre Pearsons ran a 3:15.88, also finishing in second place.
Savannah State junior Asia Stinson led the Lady Tigers. Stinson ran a 12.18 in the 100 meter dash for a second-place finish. She finished first in the preliminaries with an 11.93.
