The pig that was attacked by a man and two dogs in an Effingham mobile home park is now at home.

The family pet, named Oliver, suffered 23 stab wounds in the April 3 attack.

The name was given to him by veterinarian technicians at Webb Animal Clinic in Rincon where he was treated, Effingham County Sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.

Benjamin Fullwood, 23, of Springfield was charged with stabbing the pig and released from the Effingham County Jail over the weekend.

Bail was set at $25,000.

Chief Magistrate Scott Hinson set bond conditions that prevent Fullwood from being around domesticated animals and from returning to the Bevills Mobile Home Park where the incident occurred.

Fullwood was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, obstruction and trespassing when he and two pit bull dogs attacked the pig that had wandered into the mobile home park on Courthouse Road.

Humane enforcement officers were still investigating what, if anything, would be done with the dogs, Ehsanipoor said.

Fire closes Coastal Middle school

Coastal Middle School students were evacuated to Marshpoint and Islands High schools Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the attic above the computer lab.

Savannah-Chatham Public Schools Police Chief Ulysses Bryant said the blaze broke out on an air conditioning unit. The school was evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished. The damage was limited to the unit, according to Bryant, but students remained at the evacuation sites while smoke was cleared from the building.

Morning crash injures three, blocks road

Three people escaped serious injuries Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash that closed Ogeechee Road for hours, Savannah-Chatham police reported.

Sharon Dallas, 52; Bryant Dallas, 18; and Josie Richardson, 48, all of Savannah, were transported to area hospitals for treatment after the 7:37 a.m. crash on Ogeechee Road at Stiles Avenue, police said.

Police said Sharon Dallas was driving a white 2004 Chevrolet Venture minivan on Stiles Avenue and entered Ogeechee Road in the path of a 2005 Hyundai Tucson driven by Richardson. Bryant Dallas was a passenger in the minivan, police said.

Savannah-Chatham police’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the collision.

Police reopened all lanes of Ogeechee Road at Stiles Avenue to traffic shortly before 10 a.m.
