Team Savannah hosted the Back to School Weightlifting Open on Saturday at the Anderson Cohen weightlifting Center. Team Savannah will host the upcoming American Masters Championships this October. This competition will bring in some 300 athletes, age 35 and over, from across the country. Here are the results from Saturday’s competition:
In the master women’s division, Krista Owens, 75kg, broke a national record with 103kg in the clean and jerk. Arlys Maxwell set the previous mark in 1998. Ownes lifted 78kg in the snatch, giving her a 181kg total.
Other women competitors were: Ebbi Stuckey, 4, won gold with a 6kg snatch and 7kg clean and jerk for a 13kg total. Lily Stuckey won gold in the 35kg class with a snatch of 16kg and clean and jerk of 22kg for a 38kg total.
In the 53kg class, Ashley Haynes won gold with a snatch of 35kg and clean and jerk of 45kg for a 80kg total. In the 53kg senior division, Sarah Ford, 25, won gold with a 37kg snatch and 51kg clean and jerk. In the 58kg class, Laura Bligh, 34, won gold with lifts of 60kg in snatch and 87kg in clean and jerk. Gemma Skuraton placed second with a 43kg snatch and 57kg clean and jerk.
In the junior group, Anna Smith won gold with a 23kg snatch and 36kg clean and jerk.
In the 63kg class, national champion Avery Owens won gold with a 60kg clean and jerk while Destiny Haynes won the snatch gold with a lift of 38kg.
In the 69kg class, Miranda Price won gold with lifts of 38kg in snatch and 55kg in clean and jerk for a 93kg total. Sarah Stewart, 27, won gold in the 75kg class with a 43kg snatch and 55kg clean and jerk for a 98kg total. Mia Hannah, 19, won gold in the 75-plus kg class with lifts of 55kg in snatch and 81kg in clean and jerk.
In the male division, Cooper Maxheimer, 4, made his debut with clean and jerk only and lifted 8kg (17 pounds). Older brother, Blake Maxhemier, 7, won gold in the 44kg class with lifts of 18kg in the snatch and 25kg in the clean and jerk for a 43kg total. Toa Owens, 9, won the silver medal in the 35kg weight class and made all six lifts, with lifts of 16kg in the snatch and 22kg in the clean and jerk. Samuel Cohen, 9, won the gold medal with lifts of 26kg in snatch and 32kg in clean and jerk.
Ryan Brunson, 6, won gold in the 25kg class with lifts of 11kg in snatch and 14kg in clean and jerk.
In the 39kg class, Johnathan Wigfall, age 10, won gold with lifts of 22kg in the snatch and 35kg in clean and jerk. Also in the 39kg class, Eli Smith, 11, won silver with lifts of 22kg in snatch and 32kg in clean and jerk. In the 50kg class, Dade Stanley, 12, won gold with lifts of 50kg in snatch and 65kg in clean and jerk. Logan Lewis, 9, won gold with lifts of 26kg in snatch and 35kg in clean and jerk. Justin McInnis, 12, won gold with lifts of 32kg in snatch and 46kg in clean and jerk for a 78kg total.
In the older male division, Sam Phillips, 14, won gold with lifts of 52kg in snatch and 67kg in clean and jerk in the 62kg class. In the 69kg class, national champion Will Cohen, 14, won gold with lifts of 100kg in snatch and 123kg in clean and jerk for a 223kg total. In the 77kg class, Andrew Hunt won gold in the junior division with lifts of 71kg in snatch and 90kg in clean and jerk. In the open division, Vaughn Head won gold with lifts of 74kg in snatch and 95kg in clean and jerk for a 169kg total.
In the 85kg class open division, the gold medal went to Kyle McArthur who lifted 88kg in snatch and 121kg in clean and jerk for a 209kg total. The silver medal went to Adrian Pettiford who lifted 80kg in snatch and 100kg in clean and jerk. In the 13 and under division, John Thomas Foran won gold with lifts of 61kg in snatch and 71kg in clean and jerk. Also winning gold, Nic Anderson snatched 79kg and clean and jerked 120kg for a 199kg total. Erik Leon, 20, won silver with a snatch of 78kg and clean and jerk of 98kg for a 176kg total.
In the 94kg class, national champion Michael Cohen, 16, won gold with lifts of 117kg in snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk for a 277kg total. In the master division, Mark Heiser won gold with lifts of 70kg in snatch and 85kg in clean and jerk for a 155kg total. In the open division, Clint Holcombe won gold with a 194kg total, while Michael Shepherd won silver with a 178kg total.
Jamie Beard won gold in the 105kg class with a 140kg snatch.
In the 105+kg class, Joe Tallent won the masters division with a 115kg total.
In the junior division, gold went to Caleb Gee with lifts of 113kg in snatch and 142kg in clean and jerk for a 255kg total. Seth Strickland won the open division with lifts of 107kg in snatch and 120kg in clean and jerk for a 227kg total.
