Armstrong State University’s Each One Teach One program was recently awarded an Excellence in Education certificate at the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools Board of Education meeting.

The Each One Teach One program allows undergraduate engineering students from Armstrong to help children at Spencer Elementary School develop math and problem-solving skills. The project culminates with the engineering students developing projects that teach the younger students important math, science and engineering concepts.

The Each One Teach One program, which matches college mentors with elementary school children, helps increase awareness among inner city elementary or middle school students of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers. The program also develops student appreciation and motivation to excel in STEM fields and encourages mentor relationships between college students and elementary school students.

Coates obtained funding from the Georgia Space Grant Consortium to develop the program. Armstrong has led the Each One Teach One initiative at Spencer Elementary School for the past four years.
