Armstrong State University officially opened its residence halls for the fall 2014 semester on Thursday as 420 first-year students moved onto the campus.

“Move-In Day is always one of the busiest days of the year, and our staff and student volunteers thrive on the burst of new energy that comes to campus,” said Armstrong President Linda M. Bleicken. “It is just as exciting for us as it is for our new students.”

Armstrong’s move-in effort kicked off at 9 a.m. as volunteers began to make their way into the parking lots with golf carts and dollies to unload cars and provide new student with one swift trip into the freshmen residence hall, Windward Commons.

“For most freshmen, this is the first time that they are venturing out on their own and living by themselves, so it’s important for us to welcome them to campus with smiling faces and helpful hands,” said Nick Shrader, director of university housing and residential life. “We strive to provide a positive experience for our students and their families because this is one of the biggest moments of their lives.”

Upper classmen will move into Armstrong’s three remaining residence halls today.. Fall classes will begin on Monday.
