Christ Church
bell to ring on 9/11

To commemorate and honor those who were killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Historic Christ Church on Johnson Square will continue its tradition of solemnly tolling its 1819 Revere and Son tower bell at the time of each of the four impacts.

• 8:46 a.m. — American Airlines Flight 11 flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

• 9:03 a.m. — United Airlines Flight 175 flew into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

• 9:37 a.m. — American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon.

• 10:03 a.m. — United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into the ground near Shanksville, Pa.

The Demere Chapel of Christ Church will be open from 8:30-10:30 a.m. for those who desire a time of quiet prayer and reflection.

As the bell is tolled, the following prayers from the Book of Common Prayer will be read: the Prayer of St. Francis and prayers for those who have died; for those who mourn; for the nation; for those in our armed services; and for peace.

The chapel may be entered from the center door on the St. Julian Street side of the church.
