Two long-running Chatham County roadwork projects that have diverted traffic for several months are scheduled to wrap up by November.

Work on a box culvert on LaRoche Avenue between Lansing Avenue and Nottingham Drive should be complete by mid- to late October, said Bill Nicholson with the county Engineering Department.

The street has been closed since work began on the project in late January.

A decision was made to replace the culvert when inspectors found cracks in the structure, Nicholson said. LaRoche between Lansing and Nottingham should reopen to traffic once construction is complete.

Work on a bridge on Walthour Road, meanwhile, is expected to wrap in early November, said Engineering’s Nathaniel Panther. The previous bridge had been deemed structurally deficient and had to be replaced so vehicles of all sizes could travel across it, he said. Once complete, a sidewalk will be on one side of the bridge, he said.

Traffic in that area of Walthour will be open to traffic again once construction is complete. The street has been closed since work began on the bridge replacement in early April.
