Annual Celebrity Sports Weekend Raises $90,000 for Bethesda Academy

Bethesda Academy, an award-winning school for boys in grades 6 through 12, raised more than $90,000 at the 2013 Celebrity Sports Weekend, held May 2-4.

“We’re grateful for the support from all the attendees, athletes and sponsors who helped make the 2013 Celebrity Sports Weekend an overwhelming success,” said Dr. David Tribble, president of Bethesda Academy. “The money raised will benefit our hard-working students through innovative educational opportunities at Bethesda Academy.”

Celebrity athletes on hand for the weekend included featured Game of Life Dinner guest speaker Matt Stinchcomb, a former NFL football star and University of Georgia All-American player, as well as Greg Coleman, David Greene, Johnny Rembert, Richard Shelton, Rick Wilkins, Dusty Zeigler and many others. More than 175 guests attended the Game of Life Dinner on May 2 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.

Bethesda’s Celebrity Golf Tournament teed off on May 3 at The Club at Savannah Harbor, attracting 28 golf teams. An exclusive list of celebrity athletes from the highest level of professional sports -- including the NBA, MLB and NFL -- teamed up with local players for a friendly golf competition to benefit Bethesda Academy. 

On May 4, the annual Celebrity Sports Camp delighted 80 area youth between the ages of 11 and 18. The boys enjoyed the opportunity to learn sports tips and life skills from pro football, basketball and baseball athletes at this free annual camp.

The 2013 Celebrity Sports Weekend presenting sponsors included R.B. Baker Construction and Reeves Construction. EnviroVac, Georgia Power and Seacrest Partners served as Game of Life Dinner sponsors.
