MARIETTA — The Windsor Forest boys soccer team’s season ended Saturday in a 1-0 loss to host Pope in a GHSA Class AAAAA Elite Eight contest.
Knights coach Cam Turner said goalkeeper Ryan Kelley played a phenomenal match, making 16 saves to keep Windsor Forest in the game.
With three minutes remaining, Knights freshman Justin Walks got loose on a breakaway and fired a shot to the right side of the net, but the Pope goalie made a diving save to preserve the lead.
“We had some chances in the last few minutes, but we couldn’t put one away,” Turner said. “But the future looks bright for Windsor Forest. We had five freshmen and three sophomores starting this year. I’m super proud of my guys. They shocked everyone to get as far as we did.”
