Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are asking the public’s help in locating a car that was taken in a robbery this morning with a 16-year-old girl as hostage.

The car is a silver 2015 Nissan Altima sedan with Georgia tag PWA 9410.

It was taken in a car jacking this morning about 4 a.m. by a black male in his early 30s wearing black cargo pants and black shirt with a brown jacket, according to police spokesman Julian Miller.

A passenger in the car, Desiree “Desi” Jewel Noonan, was forced to remain in the car. She is a white female, about 5-1, slender with dark brown hair. She was wearing black pants with a cut near one knee, a black hooded shirt with the word “AEROPOSTALE” on it and a royal blue and white letterman style jacket. Working with Union Mission’s Department of Children’s Services, the Greenbriar Children’s Center and CASA, The Landings Company organized the “Adopt-an-Angel” program for the 12th consecutive year on behalf of the community. Savannah area children ranging in age from babies to teens were asked to make a “Christmas list” and their wishes were then hung on the two special Christmas trees in the lobby of The Landings Company Welcome Center.

On Nov. 17, the day after the trees went up, presents began appearing. With generous hearts and jolly spirits, residents arrived at the office with stories of their shopping experiences dedicated to finding exactly the perfect gift for their selected child.

Bikes of all sizes were delivered, dolls were everywhere, toys, scooters, and clothing piled up. By the first week in December so many packages were delivered that it was difficult to get around the office.

On Dec. 16, a caravan of Byrd Heating & Air trucksdelivered the gifts to the three organizations to the delight of coordinators.

On Thursday, Savannah-Chatham police arrested a Savannah man after a domestic incident involving a gun discharge and kidnapping.

Just after 5 p.m., metro responded to a residence on the 1300 block of East 31st Street. Officers learned that Troyozzie Adside, 24, fired a gun inside the house he shared with his 25-year-old girlfriend before forcing her into her 1998 Jeep Cherokee and driving away, said Eunicia Baker, police spokeswoman. The victim managed to safely escape the vehicle once Adside passed out behind the steering wheel.

Metro recovered the Jeep with Adside still passed out inside. It was parked at a gas station on the 3700 block of Ogeechee Road. A firearm was recovered, and Adside was taken into custody. The victim was located nearby.

Adside is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, and reckless conduct.

Police say an overnight shooting in Savannah left one man dead and sent four other people to a hospital early Friday. Two of the shooting victims are children.

Later in the afternoon, police said, a person of interest in the case surrendered to officers.

Detectives determined the 12:30 a.m. shooting at Allen Apartments on the 500 block of West 54th Street stemmed from a domestic situation, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. Two male combatants arrived separately but within a short time span, said police spokeswoman Eunicia Baker.

She said it was reported shots were fired during an argument between the two men, both of whom had guns.

Randolph Scott, 28, died at the scene of the shooting. Transported to Memorial University Medical Center with what are believed to be non-life threatening wounds were a 2-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy and two women, both 28, Miller said.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters to CrimeStoppers remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.

Man in custody dies, deputies injured at Chatham County jail

A man who was in custody at the Chatham County jail died after a confrontation with deputies when he was being booked, according to the sheriff’s office.

While being restrained, 22-year-old Matthew Ajibade injured three deputies, said Wayne Wermuth, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. A female sergeant suffered a concussion and broken nose, and two male deputies suffered injuries consistent with a fight, Wermuth said.

Information about his time of death was not immediately available.

Ajibade had been in custody at the jail since 6:40 p.m. Thursday after being arrested by Savannah-Chatham police on charges of domestic violence act, battery and obstruction by resisting arrest.

Ajibade was put in isolation because of dangerous behavior, Wermuth said. Upon Ajibade’s second welfare check, he appeared nonresponsive, Wermuth said. Jail medical staff started CPR and administered defibrillation while preparing Ajibade for transport to Memorial University Medical Center.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation, which is normal sheriff’s office protocol. A cause of death will not be made until the autopsy, lab results and the GBI investigation are completed.

Ajibade does not have any previous records with the state Department of Corrections or courts in Chatham County.

Port Wentworth police bust more than 25 underage drinkers, charge homeowners at New Year's party

Police in Port Wentworth say they busted a large New Year’s party early Jan. 1, charging more than 25 people with underage drinking. Additionally, the homeowners of the Osteen Street house where the party was held were arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors.

Port Wentworth police Sgt. James Hollingsworth said three people arrested late Dec. 31 on charges of marijuana possession and underage possession of alcohol told officers they were on the way to a nearby party. Later, an officer on patrol in the vicinity saw a large number of people who appeared to be drunk gathered in front of a house at 200 Osteen St.

When the officer stopped to find out why they were on the roadway, Hollingsworth said, the crowd broke and ran inside the house. More officers were called and police attempted to make contact with the homeowners.

Inside, police found 25 people between the ages of 17 and 20 who had been drinking, Hollingsworth said. Additionally, several 16-year-old attendees were present and had apparently been drinking, he said.

The homeowners, Richard Avery Barefoot, 51, and Angel Demas Barefoot, 44, were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They and the 25 partygoers charged with underage drinking were taken to the Chatham County jail. Additionally, one teenager was charged with possession of a drug-related object after police found she had a pipe, Hollingsworth said. The teenagers who were 16 were charged and released to their parents.

All the arrests occurred shortly after 1 a.m.

The Barefoots told police they had been asleep and did not realize there was a party in their house, Hollingsworth said. Police are still investigating to find out how the underage drinkers were able to obtain alcohol.

The sergeant advised parents to make sure they know where their children are headed at night.

“The main reason why we took the aggressive action is because we thought that after they were through with the party, they might get in cars and drive,” Hollingsworth said. “We were scared they might hurt themselves or someone else.”

Savannahians among Georgia's '100 most influential'

Each year, Georgia Trend magazine develops a list of who its writers and editors consider to be the 100 most influential people in Georgia.

This year’s list, which appears in the magazine’s January edition, includes six Savannah community and business leaders.

In the magazine’s introduction to the list, it reports: “Some of the 100 wield their influence in the limelight; others work behind the scenes. But all of them impact the daily lives of Georgians everywhere.”

Here are the Savannahians who were selected and what Georgia Trend’s writers had to say about them:

Larry Flynn, 62, president, Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.

“Flynn is in the pilot’s seat for the aircraft maker, as Gulfstream continues to expand. He also is a vice president of General Dynamics Corp., Gulfstream’s parent company. Flynn, who joined the company in 1995, previously was responsible for the company’s worldwide sales. Gulfstream, which employs nearly 10,000 people along the coast, received Gov. Nathan Deal’s 2014 Georgia Large Manufacturer of the Year Award.”

Curtis Foltz, 54, executive director, Georgia Ports Authority

“Foltz administers a $280 million annual budget and oversees all activity of the deepwater ports of Savannah and Brunswick, as well as inland terminal operations in Bainbridge and Columbus. Foltz has aggressively pursued the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, and his efforts paid off when President Obama signed into law the Water Resources Reform and Development Act in 2014, which authorized the project.”

Todd Groce, 53, president and CEO, Georgia Historical Society

“Groce has been described as one of the country’s leading public history executives. During his tenure, the operating budget has increased from $200,000 to $3 million, the endowment has grown from $1 million to $8 million, and membership tripled from 2,000 to 6,000. The society has also revived the Georgia Trustees, the highest honor the state can confer.”

Edna Branch Jackson, 70, mayor, city of Savannah

“Inducted into the 2014 National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame, Jackson, in 2011, became the first African-American woman elected mayor of Savannah. Prior to that, she served three terms as alderman at large on the city council. A participant in the Civil Rights movement, she first joined the NAACP Youth Council in Savannah at age nine.”

Robert S. Jepson Jr., 72, chairman and CEO, Jepson Associates Inc.

“Jepson completed his second term as chairman of the board of the Georgia Ports Authority in 2014, having guided the agency through the crucial proposed deepening of the Savannah port and phase one of construction. Savannah’s container traffic grew by 13 percent in the third quarter shortly after the deepening project was secured, making it the fastest-growing Atlantic port.”

Page Siplon, 40, executive director, Georgia Centers of Innovation

“As executive director of this arm of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Siplon leads the center’s six strategic industry teams: aerospace, agriculture, energy technology, IT, logistics and manufacturing. He also serves as executive director of the logistics team, which hosts the annual Georgia Logistics Summit. In 2014, the summit hosted 2,300 attendees from 38 states and 11 nations.”

UPDATE: Two injured in Friday night Savannah wreck

Two local teenagers were sent to a hospital Friday night after a two-vehicle wreck on Truman Parkway.

One teen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from a vehicle, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

Daquan Wilson, 19, of Garden City and Justice Antonia Alston, 18, of Savannah were taken to Memorial University Medical Center after the 7:43 p.m. wreck. Neither crash victim was believed to have life threatening injuries, Miller said.

Alston was the driver of a 2001 Honda Civic in which Wilson was a passenger. Wilson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected through the rear window, Miller said.

John Robert Anchors, 42, of Savannah, driver of a 1999 Toyota Sienna, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The two vehicles were traveling north near Delesseps Avenue when one failed to maintain its lane and struck the other, Miller said. Both vehicles then struck a guard rail.

The wreck resulted in northbound lanes of Truman Parkway being shut down from DeRenne Avenue to Delesseps while police and other emergency crews worked.

The wreck is being investigated by the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
