A coordinated effort by four law enforcement agencies led to a Savannah man’s arrest last week on multiple robbery charges, police announced Monday.
Rico Lavon Edwards, 30, of the 3700 block of Ogeechee Road — suspected by police in the robberies of three banks, a credit union and two other businesses — was arrested in Richmond Hill after being stopped by state troopers about 11 p.m. Thursday, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
The arrest followed an investigation by the FBI, metro police, the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and the Georgia State Patrol.
Edwards is charged with robbing the following businesses:
• Savannah Postal Credit Union on Oglethorpe Avenue, Nov. 11.
• Barnett Education Supply on West DeRenne Avenue, Nov. 19.
• The Baby Shop on Paulsen Street, Nov. 19.
• The Heritage Bank on Stephenson Avenue, Nov. 20.
• First Chatham Bank on Hodgson Memorial Drive, Dec. 18.
• Colony Bank on Hodgson Memorial Drive, Jan. 3.
Miller said that Edwards has a history of arrests by metro, and that tips from the public helped in the investigation.
Detectives with metro’s Robbery Division are continuing to investigate the robberies and attempting to determine if any other people were involved, Miller said.
