The National Weather Service in Charleston, S.C., has placed Chatham, Bryan and Effingham counties under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:45 p.m.
At 6:39 p.m., meteorologists detected thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles northeast of Fort Stewart to Riceboro moving northeast at 40 mph, according to the warning.
Residents are advised to prepare for damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and hail up to quarter size.
Some locations in the warning include Midway, Flemington, Sunbury, Belfast, Keller, Ellabell, Lanier, Fort McAllister and Burroughs.
